Review: Bad Taste in Men (Clover Park #3) by Kylie Gilmore

Rachel Miller knows opening a café with coffee and pastries will make her struggling bookstore the place to hang out. But when the bank turns her down and her best friend Shane steps in, she vows business will never ruin their friendship.
Gourmet ice-cream maker Shane O’Hare knows food, not women. To sweep Rachel off her feet, he secretly sells his beloved ’67 Shelby Mustang and becomes a partner in her café. And then she sets him up with a friend.
As they build the café together, and Rachel learns what Shane has sacrificed for her, she finds herself falling for him. Now way too much is riding on the success of this business venture—her career, her best friend, and her heart.

My thoughts (Roxana):

Well,well,well... I can't believe that I finally review Shane's story....after Ryan (my review is here)  and Travis, we finally can hear Shane's voice, even more so because he's so shy and quiet, and sweet....
Like I said, Shane is very different from his brothers, because while he's introvertit, Travis is hotness incarnated, he's also a little crazy, on the other hand, Ryan is the mature and serious one, so I was a little anxious about his character, and I'll admit  I had my doubts about his alpha side, but in the same time I was anxious to find out his story and it was a mind-blowing, genious reading, guys!

Seriously, run, don't walk to the first store you find and get your copy right freaking now!

From the first moment when Shane appears in our novel, you will not be able to help but want him to find a happy ending, and this have been my wish since The Opposite of Wild!

I must admit that I've always had a soft spot for the nerdy type, with a silent and sexy attitude ...  there is just something incredibly attractive about a man who does not know his true value, but manages to be always a support for the lady he loves , but fails to be brave and ask her on a date ...

And Shane fits in this pattern, and I was sure that we will have a similar situation! However, I was wrong and I'm glad this happened, otherwise I wouldn't have realized  just how attractive can Shane really be and, certainly, we don't have to talk about his potential as a future book boyfriend, right ladies?

But to start at the beginning, now the whole O'Hare family is happy because their members married their soul mates, and the young newlyweds, like Travis and Daisy are still celebrating this happy ending, which delighted our souls as readers because we are addicted to all happy endings things alike, such as the hilarious and sexy and heart-warming as in Daisy Does it All. So throughout this happy painting where does it fit our poor boy, Shane? Would he find his happy ending with the girl who stole his heart?

Well, you don't really think that Kylie Gilmore will disappoint our expectations, right?

Although it is obvious that Shane is more alone than before, he did not let this situation to make him bitter and he's trying to see the positive side of it... like the little fact that Rachel is also alone and after a small accident, in which Shane becomes her knight in shiny armor, he invites her out and he hopes she will accept this invitation, even more so because he does not fall into the category of her usual potential boyfriends slash losers.

Unfortunately for him, even though Rachel finds him very attractive and likes his new look, and with all the sparks that are flying between those two... he is also the most inappropriate boyfriend material for one little simple reason ...  she would never do something to jeopardize their friendship or the friendship with the rest of the gang.

I must admit I understand her refusal to give in her attraction for Shane when it could destroy the serenity, even more so considering all the history of her disastrous relationships, and I'm sure that I would've taken the same decision-  hoes before bros and all that jazz- however, deep in my soul, I hoped she will give in  the irresistible pull between the two of them and she would make our boy very happy, at least for a night!

But, she's so stuborn and the consequences of such a failure still hangs over her head, and Rachel being the good girl she is can't afford losing Shane's support, so she's running from him, from her feelings- I'm not going to lie you, my friend, she's a little frustrating, but with her record, it doesn't really come as a surprise...

Shane, on the other hand- stole my heart, since from the first book in this series, but know... oh boy! Tell me what boy or man would he give up at his beloved ’67 Shelby Mustang, just to help a girl who has already turned him down flat so many times? Shane, that's who! Even more so, he doesn't give up and tries again, and again. And little by little he gets under her skin....

Final Decision- If you want a delightful, witty, beautiful love story that will make you swoon and to wake your dreams about the old-fashioned gentlemen, then you have to read this book... and remember, sometimes true love can shake you against your better judgement!

My rating: 5/5.

Excerpt:

Shane pulled into the small parking lot behind her store. Her apartment was on the second floor. He fetched her crutches from the back seat and walked around to open her car door. She tucked the crutches under her arms and made her way awkwardly to the rear entrance.
“Thanks again,” she told him. “I got it from here.”
He exhaled sharply. “Gimme the keys. I’m not leaving you.”
She pulled her keys from her purse. “I’m fine. You’ve done your part. Thank you. Good night.”
He snatched the keys from her, unlocked the door, and slipped a crutch out from under her arm, replacing it with his body. His voice rumbled low in her ear. “Relax.”
She suppressed a shiver. That would’ve happened with anyone speaking so close to her. Sound waves and physics and neurological stuff. She glanced at him, so close. His eyes were blue with flecks of gold. She’d never noticed the gold flecks before. Her eyes widened as he leaned the other crutch against the building and scooped her up in his arms.
“Careful of my ankle!” she screeched.
He grunted, pushed open the door, and carried her upstairs to her apartment. If her pulse was racing, it was only because of the risk of falling down an entire flight of stairs. He carried her in and set her down gently on the bed.
“Really, Shane, there are easier ways to get me into bed.”
His voice went low and husky. “When I want to get you into bed, you’ll know it.”
Her face flushed. She opened her mouth for a snappy retort, but nothing came out. Was he coming on to her or insulting her?
He chuckled. “I’ll bring your crutches.”
He left, and she propped up the pillows behind her so she could sit up in bed. He returned and placed the crutches next to her bed.
“I’ll take the sofa,” Shane said, “so I can carry you downstairs again in the morning.”
“That’s ridiculous. I’ve got crutches. I can do it.”
“If you don’t want me to stay, then call me when you wake up and I’ll come over. I’m not letting you tumble down those stairs.”
“You’re not sleeping on my sofa.”
“Then call me.”
“Sure,” she said just to get rid of him.
His eyes narrowed. “I’ll be on the sofa.”
“No!” She thought fast. How to get him out of her hair? “Sleep in my bed instead,” she offered, lifting the covers.
His eyes lit up. “I thought you’d never ask.”
And to her absolute shock, he scooted in next to her.

About the author

Kylie Gilmore was lucky enough to discover romance novels at a young age as they were strewn all over the house (thanks, Mom!). She writes quirky, tender romance with a solid dose of humor. Her Clover Park series features the O’Hare brothers, three guys you’d definitely have a drink with and maybe a little more.

Kylie lives in New York with her family, two cats, and a nutso dog. When she’s not writing, wrangling kids, or dutifully taking notes at writing conferences, you can find her flexing her muscles all the way to the high cabinet for her secret chocolate stash.
